Analysis of Medium- and Long-term Coupling Effect of Energy- and Water-Saving Policies in Urban and Rural Areas in Beijing

Liu Gengyuan, Hu Junmei, Yang Zhifeng

Strategic Study of CAE 2019, Volume 21, Issue 5,   Pages 120-129 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2019.05.007

Abstract:

An energy-water coupling model is established in this paper based on long-range energy alternatives planning (LEAP)
and water evaluation and planning (WEAP), scenarios are then designed to explore the energy- and water-saving effects of different
policies in Beijing in the future and their coupling effects, and sensitivity analysis of the results is also conducted. Results show that the total energy consumption in Beijing will grow gradually by year, while water shortage is unlikely to occur. During the 13th Five-Year Plan, the total energy-saving amount owing to water-saving policies is 1.003 million tonnes of standard coal, and the total water-saving amount owing to energy-saving policies has reached 276 million cubic meters. The energy demand and water demand by residents’living, the service industry, the construction industry, and the traditional manufacturing industry are correlated, as they are critical energy-water coupling sectors. In terms of energy- and water-saving effects in different scenarios and periods, the industrial structure optimization policy shows great energy-saving potentials in the short term, while irrigation technology innovation and planting structure optimization in the agricultural sector have both good energy- and water-saving effects in the short term. A coordinated energy- and water-saving effect can be found in energy-saving scenarios in the service industry and the industrial sector. As for policies in the same sector, regulation on energy use intensity can achieve an obvious coordinated energy- and water-saving effect.

Contraceptive willingness of women after cesarean section in Beijing

Shen Jie,Gao Lili and Pan Ying

Strategic Study of CAE 2014, Volume 16, Issue 5,   Pages 16-19

Abstract:

To learn the contraceptive willingness and it’s affecting factors among women after cesarean section in Beijing. Stratified cluster sampling and randomized data collection by questionnaires of women after cesarean section from July 2011 to December 2011 in various areas in Beijing and data analyzed by Chi-squared test and Logistic Regression. The results show that the average age of the target women was (31±4.53) years old. The median of the women’s planning intercourse after cesarean section was 7 weeks. 96.43 % of the women were unaware of the methods for postnatal contraception. Only 27.74 % of them will take contraception as soon as possible after cesarean section and 75.27 % of them preferred condom. 72.25 % of the women had no plan for contraception or will take contraceptive methods until 3 months after cesarean section. 62.64 % of the women received postnatal contraceptive counseling, condom ranked the first among the methods recommended by the doctors. The protecting factors for women take contraception as soon as possible after cesarean section were that the doctors emphasize the importance of postnatal contraception and women aware of postnatal contraception. Unmet needs of postnatal contraception were high among the target women. They hoped to get professional counseling during antenatal care or postnatal home visits. There are risks of pregnancy after cesarean section. More attention should be paid for contraception implementation as soon as possible after cesarean section. It is suggested that postnatal contraceptive services should be carried out to explore the service model in Beijing and to meet the unmet needs to reduce unwanted pregnancy after cesarean section which will be helpful to decrease the risk of induced abortion after cesarean section.

Chemical Resistant Yarn with Hierarchical Core–Shell Structure for Safety Monitoring and Tunable Thermal Management in High-Risk Environments Article

Duo Xu, Yingcun Liu, Can Ge, Chong Gao, Ze Chen, Ziyi Su, Haoran Gong, Weilin Xu, Jian Fang

Engineering 2024, Volume 32, Issue 1,   Pages 221-229 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2023.06.018

Abstract:

Chemical resistant textiles are vital for safeguarding humans against chemical hazards in various settings, such as industrial production, chemical accidents, laboratory activities, and road transportation. However, the ideal integration of chemical resistance, thermal and moisture management, and wearer condition monitoring in conventional chemically protective textiles remains challenging. Herein, the design, manufacturing, and use of stretchable hierarchical core–shell yarns (HCSYs) for integrated chemical resistance, moisture regulation, and smart sensing textiles are demonstrated. These yarns contain helically elastic spandex, wrapped silver-plated nylon, and surface-structured polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) yarns and are designed and manufactured based on a scalable fabrication process. In addition to their ideal chemical resistance performance, HCSYs can function as multifunctional stretchable electronics for real-time human motion monitoring and as the basic element of intelligent textiles. Furthermore, a desirable dynamic thermoregulation function is achieved by exploiting the fabric structure with stretching modulation. Our HCSYs may provide prospective opportunities for the future development of smart protective textiles with high durability, flexibility, and scalability.

The Regional Characteristics of the Atmospheric Environment and the Impact of Dust-storm in Beijing

Ren Zhenhai,Gao Qingxian,Su Fuqing,Wang Yaoting,Zhang Zhigang,Yang Xinxing

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 49-56

Abstract:

The regional characteristics of the atmospheric environment and the impact in Beijing were discussed in details. Applying point set for the network, the transport passageways of the atmosphere were determined, and the concept of converging zone was put forward, and the characteristics of atmospheric pollution were analyzed. Applying the laser techniques, the vertical distribution of the aerosol was detected. It was shown that the environmental quality of the atmosphere in Beijing was relative to the pollution sources in the neighborhood around Beijing area. And it was confirmed that only by the simultaneous treatment of the pollution source in both Beijing and its neighborhood areas, can the environmental quality of the atmosphere in Beijing be improved.

By both the satellite detection techniques and the analysis of the wind stream fields of the atmosphere, the phenomena of dust-storm in China were researched, and the inner source and outersource of the dust-storm in China were determined. The especially strong dust-storm on March 22, 2002, was taken as an example, by which the distribution of the original sources of the dust-storm was resolved, and the lots of the bare lands in Spring in the north of the Yangzei River were involved. The initial process of the dust-storm appeared as a group of point sources, which were then combined into a sand-dust band. Finally, the dust-storm pollution of the large areas would appeare. The modern theory and concept for the environment in China were described chiefly.

Statistics and countermeasures of non point source pollution in plain river network of Taihu Basin

Qin Zhong,Geng Qingwei,Zang Guimin

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 6,   Pages 113-116

Abstract:

Comparing the total pollution load into rivers in 2005 with the one in 2000, the analysis suggests that the percentage of point sources in total kept reducing year by year, and the non-point sources increased significantly, especially total phosphorus (TP) whose amount of pollution from non-point sources have already exceeded that from point sources. The total amount of pollution from non-point sources was almost equal, but its composition changed. The pollution from rural domestic sewage ranks first and the pollution from aquaculture and fields ranks second in the total amount of pollution from non-point sources. Based on the analysis of causes of non-point sources pollution, this essay gives some suggestion on the control of non-point sources pollution in plain river network of Taihu Basin.

Spatial Variability and Distribution of Nitrate Content of Shallow Groundwater in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain

Li Baoguo,Bai Youlu,Hu Kelin,Huang Yuanfang,Chen Deli

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 4,   Pages 42-45

Abstract:

The spatial variability and distribution of NO3- N in shallow groundwater in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain were studied by means of GPS and GIS technology. The results indicated that it did not show a spatial structure at the sampling density of 35~50 km in shallow groundwater. The spatial variability of NO3-N content belonged to high intensity. The area of NO3—N concentration over 20 mg· L-1 was about 10% of the whole Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, and was mainly distributed in the zone from Tianjin to Jinan and Xincai, Fuyang and Bengbu in the Huaihe River Basin. The area of NO3-N content in the range of 10—20 mg·L-1 was distributed in the region from Xuzhou to Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province and Weifang,in Shandong Provence, which was about 11.5% of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain. The NO3—N concentration in the shallow groundwater was related to the groundwater depth. The NO3-N concentration was usually over 20 mg·L-1 when the groundwater level was less 3 m, while the NO3—N content was less 10 mg·L-1 when the groundwater level was over 10 m. It implied that the affecting depth of the nitrate leaching on the groundwater was less than 10 m. These results were beneficial to making decision for increasing water and fertilizer utilization efficiency and to the sustaining agricultural development in Huang-Huai-Hai Plain.

Fuzzy Rank Methodology for Risk Assessment of Environmental Pollution Accidents

Xiong Deqi,Chen Gang,Li Qiong

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 8,   Pages 46-50

Abstract:

Based on the fact that risk assessment of environmental pollution accidents among factories is a multi-criteria and multi-stage process, and is of relativity and fuzziness, the fuzzy rank theory is developed and applied to solve such ranking problems by means of the fuzzy weighted distance, membership degree and the extensive Minimum Square Criterion. Furthermore, the methodology is applied to assess the risk of potential pollution accidents among four important chemical factories in Dalian, and the results are more reasonable than those obtained by the Index Method.
